Kodak Pro Image 100
FILM STOCK ANALYSIS
Pro Image 100
A stock from Kodak that has the high contrast and precision of Ektar and the striking colors of Portra 160.
Experimenting with different film stocks and exploring your new go-to can bring up a lot of questions for photographers. What setting does it look best in? What formats does it come in? How do skin tones look on it? How accessible is it? How much does it cost?
We’re going to dissect the characteristics of Pro Image 100 and how it compares to other stocks like it.
One of the first things to consider is how the scanner you choose will affect the outcome of the image. Going with Frontier will make the colors pop and give it a warm, bright look. Noritsu, on the other hand, will give you more details in the highlights and shadows to work with, as well as more pinks in skin tones. Here’s a few side-by-side comparisons:
As you can see, there’s a stark difference between the two scanners for this stock. After seeing how Pro Image 100 looked in direct sunlight, we waited for that Alabama summer sun to take a break and give us a short summer shower! Below are scanner comparisons from a roll shot on a cloudy afternoon.
In the indirect sunlight, the Noritsu scans gave Pro Image 100 a bit more warmth and the Frontier scans kept that rich contrast from the sunny setting. For a budget-friendly stock, Pro Image 100 offers a wide range of variety between the two scanners.
One thing about this stock that differs from others — besides the price — is how it stores. Pro Image 100 was made to be kept at room temperature, even in the hotter and more humid climates (and we know a lot about humid climates).
We’ll have Pro Image 100 Pro Packs (5 rolls) for sale in our Film Drop for $37.46 + $50 in credit towards our lab services! Grab a pack and test out which scanner fits your style the most. We can’t wait to see what you create!
